Q&A

How long does the fingerprinting appointment take?

The appointment takes approximately five to ten minutes and your fingerprints are immediately available for electronic transmission to the Illinois State Police and FBI for background processing.

For how long are my fingerprints stored in your system?

Records are stored for 30 days only. If fingerprint cards are lost or misplaced during the 30 day retention period, we will print another set for you free of charge.

Do I need to sign a consent form for my fingerprint processing?

By federal law you have to sign a consent form to perform a fingerprint based background check. We’ll provide the necessary form. The form contains personal information such as name, DOB, SSN, and address.

If I was fingerprinted before, can you transfer my prints to another agency or employer?

No. Each time you are fingerprinted, your results are sent to the requesting agency. Each employer/agency that requires fingerprinting maintains their own database with the Illinois State Police and a new set of fingerprints is required by state law every time a criminal background check is requested.
